EI not AI: Electronic Intelligence - nothing artificial about it!
This term that we are all hearing more and more each day, some say it could be linked to different planetary alignments having to do with Pluto which can represent power, tech/"ai" stuff, and things like that. The cosmic alignment of a rise in the usages, abilities, capabilities, and applications of "ai" actually have triggered something in me and I feel like it needs to be brought to the surface and discussed. Not to sound overly "politically correct", I would like to argue about using the term "artificial intelligence" or AI.
This intelligence is something that is built into our day-to-day lives, and it is powered by electronics. The usages are so endless and so seamless you may not even realize you are getting assisted by "AI" in your day-to-day lives! GASP! What's that you say? You don't use AI? So you don't do internet searches? You don't use your cars "dynamic cruise control" or "smart cruise control" that keeps your car a set distance from another vehicle in front of you? Do you also not use Alexa, Google, Siri either? Ever? Well if not any of those things and about 10,000 others that don't come to mind right now - then that's fine, but for the large majority of the rest of us, we are seamlessly and flawlessly using a technological marvel that is called/referred to as some variant of "AI".
Why the quotes around "AI"? Because I would like to start a movement for the popular term for "AI" to be changed to EI - electronic intelligence. All of these systems we use, have some sort of capabilities where the system is aware of certain things, thus triggering a response, helping us drive, navigate, be our digital "cloud" assistant. And there is nothing artificial about the ACTUAL help that these systems are providing us. So why is it we are calling all of these marvelous advancements "artificial"? These electronic/robotic assistants are providing real help and real intelligence that we love, use, count on day in and day out.
So my feeling and what I am putting out there and hoping somewhere, somehow this can spread - Let’s give credit where credit is due here and use EI as the new "AI" - lets start a trend!
