I am just over the 2-month mark with this amazing machine, I cannot believe what an astounding and marvelous work of art the new Corvette is! I have been averaging over 30 MPG (mostly highway) on my commute to work and yet the 490 HP is just sitting there waiting to be tapped into at a moment's notice (along with the glorious roar ripping through the tailpipes).
Speaking of notice, I have been keenly aware of the attention the Corvette gets! I mean, how could you not notice? The car is a celebrity! Many waves, smiles, and nods since I have been behind the wheel! The “Corvette Wave” was mentioned time and time again in the chat groups and forums that I am in for the Corvette, and you can read more about it here.
Of course, it’s a fun part of owning the car to be part of the group of people who enjoy the vehicle and part of a community of vehicle enthusiasts. A little wave at a fellow Corvette driver goes without saying, but what about all those other cars out there taking pictures, ogling and admiring the vehicle?
A newer Mazda came around my vicinity on the highway the other day. I noticed them lurking in my blind spot (a little longer than I would have liked but I figured they were checking out the car). As we were the only two on the highway at the time, there was no issue with driving (side by side) for a moment before he took an exit. As I moved back over into the right lane when he exited, I saw him smiling and looking towards me so I gave him the “Corvette wave”!
Furthermore, a few automotive-admiring coworkers have commented on the days I have brought it to work that it has “made their day” to see it or at least “made them smile”.
My point is that it is so easy to use this platform (the ownership of a sports car or high profile vehicle that garners attention) to spread a little love and joy around. I think it’s safe to say the world could use a little more joy and a little more love, so why not share what you can with those around you? Wave back at that person who is checking out your car! Take it to the next level and investigate if there are any local car groups or cars and coffee meets in your area. I have been waiting for this moment and can’t wait to share the joy!
